    It's football season, y'all!

Our Ole Miss Rebels made their triumphant return on Sunday, and other than giving many of us near heart attacks a few times, they played very well. More importantly, they played clean.

The same couldn't necessarily be said for the opposing team.

In any case, husband was able to watch the game from Tokyo at the same time as the children and I. We happily exchanged texts and phone calls during those three hours. It was so nice to share in game talk and compare thoughts.

For a little while the four of us were together dong the same thing.

The children looked great and had a blast while wearing their red and blue,

    Ole Miss Bebe

    cheering on their Rebels,

and celebrating touchdowns with silly-sweet victory dances.

    We had a lovely afternoon.

Eldest was really feeling the absence of her Daddy, though. One big thing they have in common is their great love of Rebel football.

    Rebeled Out

    And the paraphernalia.

Sports in general are something they enjoy sharing. They go to games together, read their sports magazines, and discuss players. Since we're in the process of getting used to a new "normal", I thought we should make game day extra special.

This meant football snacks a la eldest. She had her hand in everything (and as always, loved getting to work behind the counter). If you know her, you might be surprised by the choices, but she's turned a new leaf in regards to food.

She's trying new things every day. She may not love them all, but I love her for trying.

We started with a delicious black bean and corn salsa,

created a kid-friendly drink eldest dubbed the Raging Rebel,

    Ragin' Rebel

and after lunch, enjoyed a scrumptious cookie in Ole Miss colors.

We found this treat at our grocery store, and she enjoyed every last bite. The shape was pretty cute, too. After all, the Rebels are "stars"!

Victory and success was pretty much assured by Daddy after his close inspection of the team this summer, but I'll tell you, in my opinion it isn't over until it's over. Until that clock winds down, it's still anybody's game.

We were very glad to see that on Sunday, the game went to our Rebels.

It gave us all some extra pep in our step, and eldest the little boost of joy that she needed.

Football really makes it feel as if Fall is being ushered in. It doesn't hurt that last week the weather did, too. But there's one more thing that our family associates with the crisp, cool days of Fall: soccer.

Stay tuned for our return to the field and some of those deliciously easy football game recipes.

You'll be glad you came back!

I am glad the game was enjoyed by all. I wasn't sure if Shannon would get to see it in Tokyo.

It was a good game! My two teams (Longhorns & Rebels) won this weekend! It's going to be a fun season.

I was glad Shan could watch it, too. Apparantly he has this thing called "Sling Box". I don't know the specifics, but it's common for ex-pats to have, and it enables them to watch the shows from home in their own langage at the desired time.

    Pretty neat stuff!

I agree, Sarah! It was a good game. This has to be my favorite time of year-bar none.

So glad to hear both of your teams did well!
