    Day Eight: Santas for Seniors

    Saturday, December 8, 2012

I don't know if it's the time of year or that I've simply never noticed, but it seems no matter where we go these days there are signs, tags, or posters for ways to help others. Even in the coffee shops.

After last Sunday's tour of homes, we were all tired and pretty cold. We snuck in the side door of a nearby Coffee Bean to grab some hot drinks and while we waited, a tiny bulletin board caught my eye. On it were gift tag's from Home Instead Senior Care. Home Instead Senior Care's mission is to enable seniors to live happy, healthy, and independent lives in their homes. They're the industry leader for in-home, non-medical care and currently providing millions of hours of senior services annually through a network of 900 franchise offices throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, South Korea, Finland, Austria, Northern Italy and Puerto Rico. You can find out more about them here.

As much as they do around the world, all they were asking for this Christmas was for people to choose one person to help. Miss Bertha jumped out at me. I don't know her, of course, but I envisioned a spry lady who serves tea daily in her grandmothers china, cans her own jams, and walks through her neighborhood twice a day. Crazy, right? But it was the reaction I had~which meant she was the lady for us!

We fulfilled her wish list, adding a few other goodies, and happily turned it back in to the baristas at The Coffe Bean this morning. Eldest and I cheered each other with our beverages, feeling pretty darn good about our 25 Days project, and even better knowing that Miss Bertha is going to be rocking her kelly green sweatsuit this Christmas!

Tomorrow we'll be taking a break, but we'll be back on Monday. We'll see you then!
