Day One: Santa Comes to Westlake, Agoura, and Beyond...

    Saturday, December 1, 2012

One of the best decisions I made once we settled into our new home was to join the Westlake Juniors. Established in 1968 and part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, it's not unlike the Junior League. A club for women that promotes improving the lives of others and their service in the community, it has been a wonderful outlet for me. The best part? It has plenty of community outreach programs that allow children and friends to assist as well.

Those of you who follow me on Instagram know I was painting a very large mural last week. It was all in preparation for Day 1 of our 25 Days of Christmas. The 33rd Annual "Santa Comes to Westlake, Agoura, and Beyond..." is a huge food drive that is run by the Westlake Juniors. Its goal is to brighten the holiday season for predetermined local families in need by delivering bags of groceries directly on their door step. Numerous organizations including local churches, schools, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Girl Scouts of America participate by sorting canned and packaged foods for delivery. In addition, residents of the Conejo Valley help by donating money towards a bag of groceries for a family in need. It's a very large event that the community takes part in. This year, Eldest joined me as we began to celebrate the Christmas Season.

From helping to carry and arrange flowers, to moving rain tents and sorting food, our time was limited this morning, but we both dove in.

It was amazing to see the amount of food going out this morning, and to know so many were benefitting was wonderful! We felt a little like Santa as cars were packed to deliver the goods. It would have been wonderful to deliver them ourselves, but we were double-booked today! The scallywag had a meeting with the real man with the bag~and his wife!

Every year Kolbe's Korner hosts "Stories with Santa". The children do crafts around the school until Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive to read "The Night Before Christmas". Afterwards, everyone gets a chance to take a picture with the jolly couple and whisper their Christmas wish.

It's not too surprising that the scallywag went to him, but Eldest? It seems the magic of the season is still very much in her heart!

Our day was filled with some real holiday cheer! From giving to seeing, our 25 Days feel as if they've gotten off to an amazing start. Will you join in and spread some holiday cheer?
