When Madeline began planning for her 14th birthday party, she knew she wanted it to be different. We tossed around a few ideas and ultimately decided to take advantage of the lovely California weather by hosting an outdoor movie night. It hadn't been done before and everyone was excited with the plan. Really, really excited.
We rented a large 9 foot screen, speakers, and DVD projector from a company based in L.A., and before we knew it it was time to enjoy an evening with her best girl friends and "The Goonies". As it was her evening, Madeline made the decisions and I carried them out. This included simple decorations, a variety of cupcakes to suit the guests, and fun thank you gifts which included silly string. All in all, she was thrilled with the outcome.
To add a little something special to the evening, my husband strung lights accross the entire yard. It was a beautiful sight! We've decided to keep them up for now and hope they continue to charm as they did over the weekend.
I counted blessings while the celebrations unfolded. There was nothing but laughter, smiles, hugs, and good words. Madeline has been so fortunate to find such a solid group of friends. They're all so smart and sweet; beautiful both inside and out. They don't even mind when Jackson crashes the festivities (which he was doing the entire night).
Our daughter had a tremendous time with her friends and enjoyed a marvelous birthday party. The evening was a success. Was it a sign of things to come? I'd like to think so.
Happy Fourteenth Birthday, darling Madeline! Here is to a year of celebrating you.
